2026 BOM Center Block Pattern

We’ve made it to the 3rd Saturday of March and you know what that means! It’s the first pattern release in the 2026 In the Garden Mystery BOM (Border of the Month).
This is always an exciting day as we get our first hint into what we are going to be making together for the next several months.
If you missed the announcement for this sew along, you can read about it in this blog post. In that post, you will also find the fabric requirements and the calendar of release dates.
The first thing you are going to want to do is to download the Layer Cake Cutting Diagram.
Download the Layer Cake cutting diagram here.
This gives you all of the cutting information for cutting your layer cake squares. I talked in detail about this cutting diagram and I also demo’d how to cut your layer cake squares in today’s video. I’m not going to be going over everything I said in the video again here in this blog post so I do encourage you to give it a watch.
We are starting with a checkerboard center.

You can download the block pattern here.
Just like with the cutting, over in the video today, I am going over helpful info to get you off to a great start on this project….sewing, pressing, double checking measurements etc. for piecing this block.
If you have questions, please leave them for me over in the comments of the YouTube video. It’s easier for me to find and respond when they are all in one spot and it also makes it easier for others to see answers to questions they also may have had.
Moving onto the next Sewcialites block…this week our new block was designed for us by Vanessa of Lella Boutique.

Another super cute block in this sew along.

This is the 5th free block pattern in the Sewcialites sew along and it can be downloaded here.
If you’ve missed previous Sewcialites block patterns and/or information about the sew along, you can find all of that here.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend! Corey
ITG Mystery BOM

I love your newsletters they are always filled with great content and ideas! 🩷
Thank you for your videos every saturday! I really look forward to them! And I love participating in you sew alongs! This is just a random question. What would be your go to quilting pattern on a star quilt, a lemoyne star quilt in particular? I have been using David Hurd and he really does a fabulous job! Thank you!
It’s fun to share with everyone! I don’t know that I have a go to quilting pattern for a Lemoyne Star quilt…I might even choose something different on each one if I were to send out multiple ones. Did you happen to catch my recent video where I was chatting about some of my favorite quilting designs that I’ve used multiple times?…one of those might work but there would also be lots of others that would be pretty! You could browse online a bit and see if any quilting designs strike your fancy. I really like looking at Sew Shabby Quilting on Instagram to see what new pretty designs she has.
On the BOM this month, are we using the contrast fabric at all?
Not this month.
I am going to use gridded interfacing to make the block. That way, it will be easier to line up all of the squares.
Thanks for sharing these BOMs.
I am so grateful for your Saturday videos! I too look forward to them every week. You inspire me to kick off my weekend sewing time. I am going to to you with this current sew along! Thank you Corey!
Thank you so much! It’s fun to share on Saturdays. =)
I’m really excited for the border of the month and I hope to be able to keep up because borders are the one thing I really want more experience in creating. Thanks for offering this!!!
I think it’s going to be a fun one to sew along together!
My mother and I are starting this as our very first sew-along project ever. I am 44 and my mom is 70. We just started quilting last summer and finished longarm quilting our 21st quilt tonight. (we have become quickly addicted!!!) She was an occasional seamstress in her younger days (wedding/prom dresses). I was a rare occasional sewist in adulthood (baby blankets). That is until JoAnn Fabrics went out last May (2025) and I got serious FOMO that lead me to researching how to find fabric on the internet which opened up this massive world of quilting. I am so very excited to start this project as our first sew along. I just purchased your In The Garden line and hope to buy so many of your other lines soon. Thanks for your YouTube content and beautiful fabrics. We enjoy it all!
Oh wow!…I love that you and your mom have made so many quilts together over the last year! That is so much fun!
Hi Corey. I live in the UK and I love following you and I have learnt a lot over the year by following you. I have recently brought a layer cake – In the Garden but my layer cake has only got 39 pieces and that is included the white on white. Which was your extra piece you did not included. I am unsure what I am missing. I am new to quilting and I was going to follow exactly what you will be choosing every month. Now I am lost. Please can you advice.
Michelle
Are you counting the duplicate pieces also? I am using those as well.
I joined the BOM and I’m excited to sew it, woke up at 4am this Sunday morning, could not get back to sleep so I decided to cut the BOM.
Can’t wait for your new fabric line to come out.
I am wondering if this border of the month will help me with how to figure out borders for panels. I have a several panels and I don’t want to just use plain strip borders on them.
Or if you have any suggestions on how to figure out sizing for block borders for panels.
Thanks
Janet Greeley
You can look online at quilts to get border ideas. Search for medallion quilts to see a lot of great ideas. As far as figuring the math, you can graph out your pattern and then figure the pieces needed from there.
Corey, thank you for Saturday videos. Quick question on BOM layer cake cutting. Should I keep the pieces together by size or by layer cake piece? Thanks.
Hi Corey, thank you for your videos and beautiful fabrics. Quick question? I have In the Garden FQB that I am going to use for a quilt pattern . I have a large dog that loves to get dirty and of course bo on the quilts. I would rather not use white as a background and not quite sure about using the Etching stone. Is there another light color for a background that would work for that fabric line? Thank you for your time. P.S. Is there a chance that you will ever make a sister fabric line to Springbrook? I love that line and have just scraps left. Thanks again, Nan
Hi Corey, I couldn’t help myself but to join your BOM😉I am using scraps from a quilt I am currently finishing. If I would like to use 1 main light to go along with the colors, how many sets (of each sizes of cuts) do I need? Thank you! Trixie
