Blockheads Blocks 37 & 38
I trust that everyone had a wonderful holiday season?
I decided to take an impromptu break from social media over the holidays. My family and I had a wonderful, very lazy, break–and it was much needed. My daughters went back to school yesterday and now I’m am playing catch up on various things. One of which is getting caught back up on my Blockhead Blocks!
Last week’s block, Block #37, was Dreamy by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life blog. You will find the pattern for this block on her site. For my Dreamy block, I decided to use mostly Bella Solids. I have made one other solids block for this quilt.
I still need to add in some more solids blocks to balance the solids with all of the prints in my sampler. The Dreamy block was a perfect one to use solids for. It is an 18″ quilt block. I simplified the piecing a little bit as I was using less fabrics. This block is composed of four 9 patch units and 5 “circle” units. For the circle units, I cut (2) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles for the top piece and the bottom piece and did 2 1/2″ stitch and flip corners. This eliminated all of the half square triangles in the original pattern.
The solids are a mix of Moda Bella Solids in my favorite colors. I buy bolts of solids in the colors that match my lines so that I always have them on hand. The little plus print I used for my background in this block is from my Strawberry Jam line of fabric which comes out in March.
And, block #38 is brought to us by Lisa Bongean and is called Anchor Point. You’ll find this pattern here.
Isn’t this a striking block? I love the way it turned out. The outside border fabric is from my Prairie line of fabric and I am getting low on it. I’ll be sad when it is all used up!
The fabric lines I used for this block, from the outside to the inside are: Prairie, Sunnyside Up, Lulu Lane, Sundrops, Pepper & Flax, and the center is Pepper & Flax also.
When I was off last week I had some disappointed ladies that the coloring pages weren’t yet up. Here they are for both Block 37 & 38.
I will be back to my usual Wednesday Blockheads post next week–it’s my block next week! I hope you are ready for some piecing! =)
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Do you list the solids that coordinate with your Sunnyside Up line anywhere on the blog? I couldn’t seem to find it.
