Buttercup & Slate Coordinating Basics

Today, I am sharing my recommended Buttercup & Slate basics with you.

As we get closer to the release of Buttercup & Slate (right now showing mid-September-ish..this could change!) it’s fun to start planning the quilts and projects you’d like to make.  As such, a list of basics is helpful!

These are my suggestions for coordinating Moda Bella solids and 1 Basic Grey Grunge. =)

From top to bottom:

Moda Bella Solid in Clover – 9900-73

Moda Bella Solid in Light Lime – 9900-100

Moda Bella Solid in Goldenrod – 9900-81

Moda Bella Solid in Canary – 9900-272

Grunge in Gris – 30150-278

Moda Bella Solid in Gray – 9900-83

Moda Bella Solid in Etchings Slate – 9900-170

Moda Bella Solid in Etchings Charcoal – 9900-171

Not pictured is the Moda Bella Solid white shade which is Off-White 9900-200 (this is always the white that matches my lines).

There are also some very pretty low volume type prints in this line that I wanted to point out and another favorite white on white.

I really like the white on white in Buttercup & Slate.  I’ve used up all of my yardage of it and have 3 more bolts on the way when the fabrics start shipping so I don’t run out!–that print would definitely be my white recommendation. =)  You can see it at the bottom of the picture above.  It is the same print as the print at the top.

Speaking of the print at the top…if you loved the sketchy floral print in Beautiful Day, this is another great one to add to your stash.  It makes for a beautiful background.

Below is a reminder of the light grays in Beautiful Day and these new ones in Buttercup & Slate will mix beautifully.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I’ll be back tomorrow to share my completed Heartfelt Quilt. =)  Have a wonderful Thursday! Corey

Received my Buttercup & Slate FQ Bundle this morning (in Scotland). The fabrics are so fresh and yummy, all those delicious greens, sunny yellows, and comforting greys. Can’t wait to get sewing with these. Thanks Corey for a scrumptious selection of fabrics!

Hi Corey, love the white on white. I’m going to buy extra for the sew along. You can’t go wrong with a good white on white. I’m also buying more of the border fabric. I like to cut my borders length of fabric. I can’t wait for the Oh Happy Day sew along. I have to also say I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sunwashed. You just keep giving us these luscious fabrics. Thank you☺️

I sure bought extra of that white on white as well. I really like it! Thanks so much for your kind comments on Sunwashed too!–I’m excited for those fabrics as well. =)

Those prints and solid are beautiful. I wish I had the room in my sewing room to add them to my collection

I can’t find anymore of the backing for the Heartfelt Charity Quilt a long from Fat Quarter Shop. It’s the white with black outlined florals. Do you have any where I can buy more? If not will the white or white or other of the Buttercup & Slate match and if so will it be in 108” and which one? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    • Sandi Silvestri says:

Hi Theresa, I just checked the online store of a local quilt shop in Lancaster county, PA. They no longer have the Beautiful Day wide back, but they do have some Thatched wide back. They do however, have yardage of quite a few of the 42” wide prints from Beautiful Day. Their website is the http://www.oldcountrystorefabrics.com. Hope this is helpful.

    • Corey says:

In the last photo above, is it the 4th print from the bottom you are wondering about? That print wasn’t available in 108″ wide only regular width. It has sold out in a lot of shops. In the second photo from the bottom of the low volume prints in Buttercup & Slate, the top print works well in place of it for background. Any of my white on whites will also mix well as they are all the same shade. Buttercup & Slate does not have any 108s. The fabric used for the majority of the pieced backing on the Heartfelt quilt is the gray fabric towards the top of the Beautiful Day photo above. (same print as the white but with a gray background) That print is available in both 108″ wide as well as regular width. The regular width fabric is still available (that is the width required for the pieced backing) but the 108″ of that fabric is harder to find. I hope this helps! I wasn’t sure if you were asking about backing or background so I tried to answer for both. =)

So it appears that I’ll be able use pieces from Pepper & Flax, Cozy Up, and this new line in many fun projects. Makes me glad I’ve been hoarding, uh I mean guarding those earlier lines for a reason!

    • Corey says:

Oh yes!…there are always so many mix and match opportunities from line to line. Spring Brook is another great one to mix with Pepper & Flax and Buttercup & Slate.

  8. Amy Young says:

I’m also working on my Heartfelt Quilt out of the Beautiful Day Fabric……LOVE!!!!!!

  9. Corey, will all of the fabrics in Coriander Seeds coordinate with Buttercup & Slate?

    • Corey says:

Yes they will. The colors especially–I would choose some prints over others to compliment the prints in Buttercup & Slate but they will all match.

  10. Nellie Tirres says:

Oh my goodness, your buttercup is so fresh, warm, and comfy, I love it. But, I love your Gray’s too. It’s the hardest thing for me to do, complementing the fabrics. I get very overwhelmed.

  11. Mary Scott says:

I have misplace the posting for the quilt along on what the fabric requirements were and what book I needed to purchase. Can you please tell me?

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
