Oh, Happy Day! Sampler Sew Along Week 9

Solitude Quilt from the Oh, Happy Day! book. I shared more about the quilts hanging in the background in this video.

Our last block from the Oh, Happy Day book for our sampler is….the Solitude block.   You’ll find the video tutorial available here.

After the last two blocks, I think you will be happy for today’s block…flying geese and squares/rectangles.  It’s an easier one than the last two. =)

The background fabric shows up so nicely on this one!

Cutting and Piecing Instructions for today’s block:

You will find the cutting information for today’s block on page 53 of your Oh, Happy Day! book.  Cut the fabrics listed under “Assorted Prints”  and “White Solid”.

The written, piecing instructions can be found on pages 49-50.   I’ve also shared a video tutorial today as usual.  Your block will measure 12 1/2″ square.

If  you are new here and unfamiliar with this sew along, you can read more about it here.

Starting next week, we will have 3 weeks of finishing instructions to put our sampler blocks together.  The complete schedule is at the bottom of each Saturday post.  I’m sharing the instructions in smaller sections, partly to keep the mystery going just a bit longer but also to keep the piecing in smaller chunks.

Hand Quilted Solitude Quilt. Hand Quilting video series available here.

Sometimes we get the quilt blocks sewn up during the sew along (yay! for keeping up…that can be tricky!) but lose our footing a bit during the finishing.  You will want to check back in here next Saturday for the Week 1 Finishing PDF and video tutorial.

Have fun sewing up your Solitude block! Corey
