Oh, Happy Day! Sampler Sew Along Week 8

The eighth block in our Oh, Happy Day! sampler sew along is the Sweetcake block.  I’ve shared a video tutorial on this block here.

My daughter, Chloe, and I went outside on Thursday to try to take a full picture of this quilt.  The weather was beautiful…but so breezy…it made it tricky to take a nice photo.  And then, of course, within about 30 seconds we heard the “crunch, crunch” of little paws coming down the hill in the leaves.  We looked over, and there he was, Tiggs coming to check out the quilt action.

He loves to be outside but he comes in every night to sleep.  We have him trained to come in when we ring a bell for him (if he hasn’t come in on his own by then).  Chloe said all we’d really need to do is wave a quilt around outside and he’d probably come in faster! =)  He’s such a funny kitty!  And don’t worry….we didn’t have any rogue paw prints left behind after his “quilt checking out” endeavors. =)

On to today’s block…

Cutting and Piecing Instructions for today’s block:

You will find the cutting information for today’s block on page 39 of your Oh, Happy Day! book.  Cut the fabrics listed under “Aqua Print”, “Gray Print”, and “White Solid”.

The piecing instructions can be found on pages 35-37.  Your completed block will measure 12 1/2″ square.

If  you are new here and unfamiliar with this sew along, you can read more about it here.   Be sure to stop by the YouTube channel and watch today’s video for additional piecing/pressing tips.

Have fun sewing up your Sweetcake Block! Corey

Tiggs is so adorable, and I LOVE that you ring a bell for him to come in!! We adopted 3 barn kittens when we first moved to our farm, and they had a shed to sleep in at night. I fed them tuna every night to make sure they came in, and that worked for about a year. When they quit coming in for tuna, my husband put a cat door on the shed door. Those cats have all transitioned to being house cats – my daughter took 2 of them, and the 3rd is on my lap as I type this. She is still a great hunter, though…about once a week she stays out all night and we wake up to a little surprise on the back patio!

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
