Sewcialites Round 2, Block 7

The block this week for the Sewcialites quilt along is such a pretty one.  It’s brought to us by Pat Sloan and is much less tricky to piece than you might think it would be at first glance.

You can get the free quilt block pattern for Butterfly Garden here.

This block is basically just 4 patch units and stitch and flip corners.

I did skip the little stitch and flip corners that would have run right along the “body” of the butterfly to eliminate some of the bulk in my little block.  There are a lot of seams in this little guy and that made it a bit simpler in this 3″ size.

I think it turned out so pretty & the fabrics from Spring Brook and Buttercup & Slate are such a nice compliment to the block.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the final set of finishing instructions for the Oh, Happy Day! sampler sew along. =)

I just have to say I’m in awe of you folks constructing the 3″ blocks! I’m making the 6″ and struggling with points, matched seams, etc. But, I’m determined and I am having fun.

  2. I love your tiny block so much! I’m going to try it in 6″ today! Thank you for your inspiration!

I like how you didn’t use the stitch and flip corners. The block looks lovely with and without the stitch and flip. I think that is something I would not have thought of doing, yet it makes the block “yours” and I would not have known it if you wouldn’t have said anything. Thank you for doing it a little different. It gives me confidence that I too can change things without the quilt police knockin’ on my door. 🙂

You should always feel like you can change up blocks however you’d like! I saw some people over in the Sewcialites group skipping the “4 patch” part of the block and I thought this was a pretty change too!

  4. I love this block, but the bigger, the better for me! LOL Thanks for sharing your idea of leaving off the tiny flip and stitch corners for the body. That’s helpful, for sure!

I was kind of disappointed that i didn’t find the information on not using the stitch and flip info until i had completed the block as were in the original directions.I pulled the information on Thursday thru the website and then the no stitch and flip came thru on my email on Friday. Rather confusing.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
