Bountiful Charity Quilt Along: Release 6

Today is the final day of the Bountiful Charity quilt along!  What a fun sew along this has been.  My blog post today is brought to you by Tiggs…because you know that when a new, pretty quilt is in the house, he is sure to be interested in checking things out (but not too interested as you’ll see). =)

First of all, you can download the backing pattern here.  And if you’ve missed any of the previous patterns, they can all be found here (including the cross stitch patterns).  I shared last month, that I was using a 108″ wide backing from Camille Roskelley’s Nantucket Summer line of fabric rather than piecing my backing (most of the quilt top fabrics are from her line, Dwell).  I always love how pretty a pieced backing looks, but when I get to the end of making my quilt top I am usually ready to move onto the next project. =)

I sent my completed quilt top and backing to my quilter David.  I wasn’t sure what quilting I wanted for this top.  I was thinking something a little bit traditional, maybe feathers, maybe flowers…this was what I said to David, “I’m not set on the quilting on this one and open to suggestions. I could also go a feather/flower route…loose and flowy, nothing too small.”  And he suggested a new to me quilting design,  “Clam Shell Feather”, and sent a pic of that quilting design.  It was the prettiest clam + feather.  I thought it would be such a pretty compliment to the quilt top.  It was soft/feathery, traditional, but a little bit whimsical.  If you want to see me unboxing the quilt and seeing it in person for the first time, Ryan & I filmed an unboxing video when the quilt arrived to me.  You can also see better how pretty the quilting is!  You can watch the video here.

After filming our video, we took the quilt outside for some pretty, quilty pictures for this blog post.  Of course, Tiggs was interested and wanted in on the action.

He sauntered over to check out the back of the quilt.  He noticed Chloe was hiding out back there and was hopeful to receive some pets and/or scratches.  Unfortunately, her hands were otherwise occupied so he had to settle for a quick sniff of the quilt binding.  Tiggs recognizes the prettiness of a striped binding.

It’s never wise for a cat to seem too interested in a quilt.  He had to glance away briefly to make sure we knew he wasn’t that invested in checking out the quilt.

To further illustrate his point, he thought it was necessary to move away a few feet and sit in the grass.  Of course with his back facing us to make sure we understood fully that he had no interest in looking at the quilt any further.  He may also have been feeling a little bit salty that no one stopped what they were doing to give him a sufficient amount of pets and scratches.

This gave me a chance to take a closer picture of the quilting on the quilt.  I think it’s so pretty!

I hope you’ve enjoyed sewing along with this charity quilt along!  As I’ve said many times throughout this summer, this sew along is such a fun one for me and I always enjoy sewing along with all of you.  My Bountiful quilt has been sent to Fat Quarter Shop and it is going to be RAFFLED…that’s right, the donation quilts this year are going to be raffled off in September to benefit Make-A-Wish.  This is such an exciting change from years past as it will give so many more people a chance to win one of these beautiful quilts.  I’ll keep you updated on that raffle so if you want a chance to win a quilt, you don’t miss out!

Have a wonderful weekend! Corey

Never been a cat person but I appreciate your love for Tiggs. He gave your narrative of the quilt unveiling a fun twist. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to have mine quilted, but seeing yours, I’m pretty sure that design or something like it would be perfect. It’s amazing how changing fabrics give a quilt a whole different look and feel.

I never thought I would say I was a cat person either and I still can’t quite believe that these two strays managed to become permanent guests LOL. =) They’ve been fun additions to our family.

I was so happy with how that quilting complimented the quilt…such a traditional with a twist sort of quilting pattern.

I love seeing a quilt made up in different fabrics. That’s what I always loved about taking in person classes. Different perspectives with all the lovely fabric options available to us. Just love it! Ahhhh, sweet Tiggs. He is so sweet. I love how animals express themselves.
