Moda Block Heads Block 12

Block 12

Welcome to Block 12 for this round of Moda Block Heads.

This week our block, Hampshire Star, is brought to us by Janet Clare.  You will find the block pattern on her blog here.

I had a lot of fun making this cheerful little block.  I used fabrics from Canning Day and Strawberry Jam.  I did opt to simplify the block quite a bit.  In place of all of the HST’s, I used square in a square blocks where I could and flying geese blocks where I could.

I am making 6″ blocks, for the square in a square blocks using stitch and flip corners, I cut my squares at 2″ and my corners at 1 1/4″.  For the flying geese units, my rectangles were cut at 1 1/4″ x 2″ and the squares at 1 1/4″.  The plain rectangles were also 1 1/4″ x 2″.  I hope those details help others making the 6″ size who may like to piece their block like this also.

And because today is the start of a new month, I wanted to let you all know my new $5 pattern of the month for April is Backroads:

Backroads Quilt

Backroads is a jelly roll friendly quilt and is actually a two for one quilt.  With the cut-offs from making the quilt above, you can make another whole quilt top like the one below:

Backroads Quilt 2 option

You will find the Backroads pattern in my shop in either PDF or Paper versions, no code needed for the discount.

Thank you for simplifying this. While I love working with HSTs, there are an awful lot for an 8 inch block.

How do I find the layout for this quilt? The last time I saw it was block 3.

Thank you for sharing a simpler method for the 6 inch blocks. I tried it the original way and it is not going well. I will go about it a bit differently and see what happens.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
