Sunny Patches BOM: Sunny Square in a Square Block

It’s time for the next block in our Sunny Patches BOM.  Isn’t this a fun one!  It’s the Sunny Square in a Square block.

Before we dive into this block, I wanted to announce the winner of my solids/panel/Lemon Meringue pattern giveaway. =)

The winner is Linda Stone who said:

Corey, thank you for the inspiring videos and tutorials! They are the highlight of my week!
I have a layer cake of Sugarcreek in woven. Would you please recommend a project for these?
I’ve never used woven before and I am intimidated by them.

I’ve sent you an email Linda. =)  To answer your question: I shared about the quilt patterns I designed for my Sugarcreek wovens here (Pound Cake is a layer cake pattern) & I shared about the quilt patterns I designed for Sugarcreek that mix together quilting cottons and wovens here.
(Beholden 2 & Happy Scrappy Baskets are also layer cake patterns but would require 2 layer cakes).  I shared a post about sewing with wovens here.

Sugarcreek Wovens

It’s easy to be intimidated by something we’ve not tried before so I hope this information is helpful for you as well as for others!

Now, onto today’s new block for the Sunny Patches BOM:

Today’s block is the Sunny Square in a Square block.  You’ll find the PDF pattern available here.

The video tutorial for this block is available to watch today.  I shared quite a bit of extra information that you might find helpful when making this block so be sure not to miss the video!

You can watch the video here.

I also mocked up the Square in a Square block into a quilt layout digitally (using Sunwashed fabrics) so you could see what it might look like if you wanted to use just the one block in a quilt.

In this image, I used one print plus the background per block.  I think it would make a very pretty quilt…and I really like the addition of the border around each block.

If you are new to the Sunny Patches Block of the month, you will find the fabric requirements herean introduction post here the 1st block here,  2nd block here,  the 3rd block here, and the 4th block here.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend! Corey

This is going to be such a pretty quilt and so different from other jelly roll quilts! Thank you so much!

Corey, I never thought about using the square in a square with 2 different background corners (middle block top row). I’ve thought of all the same, or each different. Talk about feeling silly with not thinking of 2 different ones. This is a GAME CHANGER for me. THANKS!!!
