Sunny Patches BOM 2023

The Sunny Patches BOM will be kicking off on Saturday, March 18.  It’s going to be so much fun to be sharing those monthly block video tutorials once again and sewing along with everyone. =)

I’ve shared a video on YouTube today talking about the Sunwashed fabrics I’ll be using to sew along with all of you as well as the Beautiful Day fabrics I used to make my test blocks.  Additionally, I’ve shared some information for those of you that may wish to take more of a scrappy approach to this quilt along.

You can watch the video here.

If you missed the fabric requirements, you can find them in this blog post.  The BOM will run from March-October with the video block tutorial releasing on the 3rd Saturday of each of those months.

In the video, I chatted about the exact fabrics I used from Beautiful Day for my test blocks.  If you want to sew along using Beautiful Day, these are the fabrics that I used (just a reminder, I am using Sunwashed to sew along with all of you and will end up with two quilts):

1 Beautiful Day Jelly Roll

1/4 yard Star Gazing in green (29136-26)

1/2 yard Rosebuds in Red (29133-21)

2 1/2 yards Sprigs for background (29134-21)

3/4 yard Green Gingham (29138-26)

2/3 yard binding Green Gingham (29138-26)

4 1/3 yards backing (I haven’t decided on my backing–choose your favorite)

77″ square piece of batting

This is going to be a fun sew along!  Have a wonderful Wednesday! Corey

For the Sunny Patches Quilt Along, can we start the blocks that you are showing behind you? Are they done as we go monthly?

Hello Corey, When will the pattern for the Sunny Patches BOM 2023 be available? I am a confident beginner and will be using Beautiful Day. I love everything Coriander!

The quilt along kicks off on March 18 and the first block pattern will be released on that date. Block patterns will be released on the 3rd Saturday of every month during the quilt along after that.

Thank you Corey. When will the pattern for the background and jelly roll blocks be available? Am I missing something? Thanks!

        • Corey says:

No, You’re not missing anything. You can print out the fabric requirements and get your fabrics purchased for the March 18 kick-off. All of the block patterns to make the quilt top will be released during the sew along.

I just watched your video and I’m so excited to get started! Should we start cutting the jelly roll strips for the main blocks before the sew along starts?

  7. Kaitlin Petersen says:

How many jelly roll strips will we need? I have a jelly roll that I want to use, but I have used some pieces from several strips to make a table runner.

  8. Christine says:

Glad to see this in Beautiful Day fabrics, too. After gifting last years Mystery BOM I really wanted a quilt in your Beautiful Day fabrics and now I’ll finally have one! Looking forward to starting this next month!

  9. Susan Marie Patterson says:

my fabric just came in, are you starching it first? Thank you in advance!!!

  10. Teresa Ann Borchers says:

I am curious if we can starch the jelly roll. Or do we need the full size.

    • Corey says:

You should be able to starch. The jelly roll strips and the yardage will shrink across the width of the fabric when starched. Make sure that you have at least 39″ of useable fabric on your jelly roll strips after starching and at least 38″ of useable fabric across your background fabric after starching (don’t include the selvages in this measurement).

  11. Renee Goodwin says:

    Is anyone starching their fabric?

  12. Mary Anne Bryndal says:

I am also wondering about starching the jelly roll. 3 13 inch length blocks is 39 inches.
