Moda Block Heads Block 9 {and a wonderful Block Heads Round 3 resource}

Taos Quilt Block

Good morning and welcome to Week 9 of Moda Block Heads.  Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique designed the block, Taos, for this week and you will find the block pattern on her blog.

Taos Quilt Block

I used Canning Day and Sunnyside Up fabrics for my block.  I only have one other sampler block with purple in it so I wanted to add a little bit more.

I made just a couple changes to my 6″ block to simplify the piecing a little bit.

Taos Quilt Block

Instead of piecing individual squares in the center portion of my block (and because I was using background fabric for all of the F squares), I used rectangles.  The top and bottom rows each required one background rectangle, 1 1/4″ x 2 3/4″.  The two middle rows each required one background rectangle, 1 1/4″ x 2″ and one background square, 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″.  I pressed each of these rows toward E.

Additionally, I used the 2 square method for C/D and cut those squares at 2 1/2″ and trimmed them down after piecing into HST’s.  They get trimmed to 2″ (for the 6″ block size).  If you are still wondering about how to figure out HST math, you can revisit my post about the math here.

Moda Block Heads Round 3 Archive

And the other thing I wanted to let you know about is the Moda Block Heads round 3 Archive.  It is a complete list of all of the blocks for this round as they are released as well as links to any extra/alternate blocks released.   Click the red heading above to jump to that page.  You will want to bookmark this page for future reference.

Be sure to visit the other designer blogs today for their helpful tips and to see their blocks.

Happy Sewing!
