Sew Colorful Spools

Happy Monday and welcome back!  Today I will be sharing a bit about my progress working on my Sew Colorful Spools quilt blocks.

Sew Colorful spools is a quilt pattern that I was asked to design for Fat Quarter Shop to work with their Sew Colorful Fat Quarter Club.  I had fallen a bit behind in making my monthly blocks but I think I am all caught up now as of this month.  Although the October fat quarters will be here soon and then I’ll need to get those made.

The pattern includes 6 different spools blocks that you can mix and match as you would like.  I am making three blocks each month in the monthly color.

For some months, I added in scraps from my stash and for other months, I just used the fabrics from the club.

This is a great stashbuster quilt if you just wanted to work from your stash.

For the spool ends, I am using Mochi Linen in putty.   It’s made by Moda fabrics. I use this linen a lot and I like mixing it with quilting cottons.  The shrink rate of the Mochi linen is the same as the quilting cottons.  This means that you can mix the two easily.  It also doesn’t wrinkle as badly as other linen does.

If you have a local quilt shop that carries this linen, I encourage you to check it out.  It has such a nice texture and I really like what it adds to a project.

It comes in a variety of colors and I think that I have used all of the different gray options in one project or another.  They are such warm, yummy shades.

The white fabric is Moda’s 9900-200, it’s my go to white.

This has been a fun project to work on this year.  The blocks are simple and come together quickly.  Most of the monthly fat quarters packs are still available here.

Of course, as I said, you could easily work from your stash to make the blocks or it gives you a great excuse to shop color bundles at your local quilt shop. 😉

Here’s a peek at the final quilt layout.   The fabrics vary from what I ended up using but it gives you an idea of what the whole quilt will look like.

I hope you guys have all had a wonderful weekend–and are maybe still enjoying an extra day off today. =)

I’ll be back on Wednesday for “Wondering Wednesday”–I’m so excited to answer some of the questions you guys left me in last Wednesday’s post.

What a lovely quilt and it would be a great way to use up some scraps, of which I have a ton.

    Hi Corey!
I love the look of this Spool Quilt. I’m going to purchase the pattern (I’m glad it’s still available after so long)! Do you or Fat Quarter Shop have a YouTube video showing tips on how to make the blocks?

I have some of your Spring Brook fabric left-over from another quilt that I made. I’m going to use it to make this as a Wall Hanging for my sewing room.
You are so creative. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
