Goodness Grows Quilt Top

Goodness Grows Quilt Top

Good Morning from a rainy Ohio!

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend.  It was such a different Easter weekend for us but a good one nonetheless.  We “attended” from our home a wonderful Good Friday Service as well as an Easter morning Service.  And I have really been enjoying the extra time we are getting to spend together as a family.

On Saturday, I completed the last three blocks of my Goodness Grows quilt sampler.

This is the quilt that I designed for Fat Quarter Shop for the Sew Sampler Subscription box.  We just received the last block and finishing instructions in the March box.  I’ve been sewing along each month.

I had so much fun designing this quilt and just as much fun sewing along.  Each block name has a positive message that I really liked.

And it seemed so fitting to be finishing up this quilt in the springtime.  As you can see, the quilt is full of lots of “springy” things. =)

For the quilt finishing, I designed a beautiful scalloped border which sets the quilt off perfectly.  On Saturday, however, as I was completing the quilt top, I decided I didn’t want to take the time to add the scalloped border.  But, if you are making the quilt, you definitely should–it ups the cuteness factor! =)  You can see the border in this version made in Sugarcreek Fabrics by Melissa Corry:

Melissa made the sample quilt for Fat Quarter Shop using Sugarcreek Fabrics.  You should definitely pop over to her blog and read about her finish and see more pics of her quilt.

Fat Quarter Shop still have some fabric kits available if you’d like to make the Sugarcreek version of the quilt like Melissa did.  The nice thing about the fabric kits is that the applique pieces are ready to go.  They have the fusible already added and the shapes made.  This is such a time saver

You can also purchase a set of just the patterns if you like to use your own fabrics.  The patterns are sold separately from the fabric kit.

I am looking forward to getting my quilt top off to my quilter and I am excited about the backing I will be using.  My Canning Day line of fabric has 108″ backing fabrics that work perfectly for this quilt.  These backings have the nicest silky feel–different from any 108’s I have used previously.  They are so nice!–and the colors are perfect for both Strawberry Jam as well as Sugarcreek fabrics.

I will be using the Strawberry Colorway for my backing.   All three colors work well to coordinate with Strawberry Jam.  If you are making your quilt using Sugarcreek, both the Strawberry & Twilight colors work well.  I love not having to piece my backing and always have bolts of 108″ on hand.  I am quickly working my way through these bolts and may have to order more–the feel is so nice!

If you are following the layout of the quilt with the scalloped border as I designed it, your quilt will finish at 66 1/2″ x 84 1/2″ and you will need 2 1/8 yards of 108″ backing fabric.

I wish you guys all a wonderful Monday!  Corey

Today I’ll be assembling my quilt top. This was such fun to do & I love the colors. I have the original kit from FGS. Having the appliqué pieces cut was such a time saver and I’ll definitely be doing the border. Thanks for a great pattern!

I really enjoyed making the blocks and putting the quilt top together. I did add the scalloped border and love it. Now it’s just waiting to be quilted. Thanks for a fun, springy pattern!!

Well done! It sure does feel good to complete a quilt top. Brava! I’m excited because I just purchased your Canning Day Fresh Picked in yellow for the backing of a yellow and white quilt I’m making (which I asked you about in an early Wondering Wednesday). It is so bright and cheerful! Keep up your good work!

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
